Terms of Service

1. Agreement & Scope

Living Word Bibles^™ (“LWB,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is operated by Cook Services Company, LLC. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to the following, collectively, the “Services”:

• www.livingwordbibles.com and its pages, subdirectories, readers, stores, account areas, forms, and features;
• www.the-holy-bible.online, to the extent operated, maintained, or administered by LWB;
• the Living Word Bibles App and other web, mobile, progressive-web-app, or downloadable experiences we provide;
• eBibles, eBooks, PDF files, EPUB files, downloads, digital editions, online readers, and other digital content;
• accounts, account libraries, newsletters, customer support, church resources, licensing services, donation pages, and other LWB services.

Certain products, translations, features, or transactions may also be governed by product-specific terms, license notices, publisher terms, checkout disclosures, or third-party terms. If there is a direct conflict, the more specific lawful term applicable to that product, license, or transaction controls to the extent of the conflict.

2. Eligibility, Minors & Accounts

You may browse publicly available Scripture and informational content regardless of whether you create an account, subject to applicable law and these Terms. To make a purchase, enter into a paid transaction, or create an account requiring contractual capacity, you must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction or act with the authorization and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information, maintain the confidentiality of your credentials, and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity occurring through your account to the extent permitted by law.

Account Registration and Acceptance

Creating a Living Word Bibles account requires you to open and review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and affirmatively indicate your agreement before account creation. By checking the required account agreement and submitting your registration, you electronically agree to be bound by these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy presented during registration. LWB may retain an audit record of that account-formation acknowledgment, including the applicable document versions and acceptance timestamp, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Your account may include a digital library or entitlement record identifying eligible products associated with the account. An account entitlement is an access or license record; it is not a transfer of copyright or ownership in Scripture, software, artwork, or any other intellectual property.

LWB may automatically provision certain free account products, including The Holy Bible: King James Version Special Edition (KJV Special), The Holy Bible: Douay-Rheims Bible, and The Holy Bible: Presidential Edition (Biden) to eligible verified accounts. Such free access remains subject to the applicable digital-product license and may be administered or corrected by LWB when reasonably necessary.

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate an account or access to a Service where reasonably necessary to protect users, enforce these Terms, comply with law, address fraud or abuse, protect intellectual property, or maintain the security or integrity of the Services.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Services only for lawful purposes. Unless expressly authorized in writing, you may not:

• interfere with, disrupt, overload, probe, scan, or attempt to defeat the security or operation of the Services;
• use bots, scrapers, crawlers, automated extraction tools, bulk downloaders, or similar systems to systematically harvest protected site content, metadata, files, or databases;
• circumvent access controls, purchase verification, geographic restrictions, download controls, rate limits, or security measures;
• submit a false, fraudulent, altered, or unauthorized transaction identifier for purchase reconciliation or attempt to attach another person’s purchase to your account without authorization;
• reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from software except where such restriction is prohibited by law;
• remove or alter copyright, trademark, attribution, provenance, or licensing notices;
• impersonate LWB, Cook Services Company, LLC, a Bible publisher, rights holder, employee, or another person;
• use the Services to transmit malware, unlawful content, fraud, spam, or material that infringes the rights of others; or
• resell, mirror, republish, sublicense, or commercially exploit protected LWB materials except under an express license.

Nothing in this section restricts lawful use of Scripture text that is genuinely in the public domain or otherwise licensed for reuse, provided you do not copy LWB’s separately protected formatting, artwork, editorial material, metadata, software, or compilation elements without permission.

4. Intellectual Property & Scripture Texts

“Living Word Bibles^™,” associated logos, and related brand indicia is a Registered Trademark in the State of Indiana; and its trademarks, service marks, trade names, and brand indica are the exclsuive intellectrual property of LWB and/or its operator, Cook Services Company, LLC.

LWB owns or licenses the original elements of the Services, including, as applicable, site design, logos, trade dress, artwork, graphics, original editorial material, product descriptions, formatting, typography, compilations, metadata, navigation, software, and the selection, coordination, and arrangement of content (“LWB Protected Elements”).

Underlying Scripture rights vary by translation. Some Bible translations are public domain or released under open terms; others remain copyrighted or trademarked by their publishers or rights holders and are displayed or distributed subject to applicable permissions, licenses, attribution rules, quotation limits, or other conditions. LWB does not claim ownership of public-domain Scripture text merely because that text appears within an LWB edition or reader.

Third-party names and marks remain the exclusive intellectual property of their respective owners.

5. Digital Products & Personal-Use License

Unless a product page or separate license expressly states otherwise, a paid or free LWB digital product is provided under a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license for lawful personal reading, study, devotional use, and ordinary device storage.

Purchase, download, or account entitlement does not transfer ownership of LWB Protected Elements or third-party intellectual property. You may not redistribute, publicly host, upload to repositories, sell, rent, bundle, sublicense, commercially exploit, or materially reproduce an LWB digital edition except as expressly authorized.

Eligible digital purchases may be associated with an account library, including qualifying eBibles and qualifying PDFs such as the Living Word Bibles Ethiopian Bible PDF. Print or physical purchases do not automatically create a digital entitlement unless a product offer expressly states otherwise.

This section does not limit rights you independently possess in public-domain Scripture text or under a third-party open license. When a public-domain or openly licensed translation appears in an LWB product, you may reuse the underlying Scripture text to the extent permitted by law or the applicable license, but not LWB’s separately protected edition design or other LWB Protected Elements.

6. Orders, Pricing & Availability

Products, formats, features, prices, promotions, and availability may change at any time before an order is accepted. Prices are shown in the currency identified at checkout. Taxes, currency conversion, or other charges may be imposed by a payment provider, card issuer, marketplace, or governmental authority where applicable.

Placing an order is an offer to purchase. We may accept, decline, limit, or cancel an order for legitimate reasons including product unavailability, pricing or description errors, duplicate transactions, suspected fraud, territorial restrictions, payment failure, rights-holder restrictions, or legal compliance.

If we cancel a completed direct purchase after payment has been captured, we will issue an appropriate refund to the original payment method, subject to payment-provider processing times and applicable law.

We attempt to describe products accurately. If a material pricing or product-description error is discovered before fulfillment, we may correct the error and, where appropriate, cancel and refund the affected order rather than fulfill it on erroneous terms.

7. PayPal & Payment Processing

Direct paid purchases and certain donations may be processed through PayPal or a PayPal-supported checkout experience. Your use of PayPal is also governed by the terms, privacy notices, dispute procedures, and other policies PayPal makes applicable to you.

For transactions processed by PayPal, payment credentials are submitted to PayPal or its payment infrastructure. LWB does not intentionally receive or store full payment-card numbers through PayPal-hosted checkout. We may receive transaction information reasonably necessary to verify payment, prevent fraud, provide support, maintain records, fulfill a purchase, and administer eligible account entitlements.

Where LWB offers purchase reconciliation, an authenticated user may submit a PayPal transaction ID to ask LWB to locate and attach an eligible prior digital purchase to that user’s account. LWB may verify transaction status, product, amount, currency, payer or account information, existing order records, and product eligibility before granting an entitlement. Refunded, reversed, disputed, fraudulent, mismatched, unverifiable, or otherwise ineligible transactions do not create a digital entitlement.

PayPal may review, hold, delay, decline, reverse, or cancel a transaction under its own policies. A payment-provider hold or delay may delay digital fulfillment or order confirmation.

We do not impose a separate surcharge solely for choosing PayPal where prohibited by PayPal’s applicable merchant terms or by law.

8. Digital Fulfillment, Downloads & Technical Support

Digital products may be delivered by direct download, account entitlement, redirect, access link, application page, email, or another digital method described at checkout. You are responsible for providing a functioning email address and using compatible hardware, software, browsers, and internet access.

If a completed purchase does not result in the expected download or access, do not place a duplicate order. Instead, visit LWB Technical Support and provide the purchase email, product name, approximate purchase date, page URL, and PayPal transaction ID if available.

Where available, you may also use LWB’s purchase-reconciliation feature while signed in. Reconciliation is limited to eligible digital products and does not convert a print purchase, donation, unrelated payment, or other ineligible transaction into a digital library entitlement.

We may replace, repair, reissue, restore, reconcile, or administratively correct access to a defective or failed digital delivery where reasonably possible. LWB offers its digital library "as is" and "as available," and LWB disclaims all warranties or guarantees as to Service & access, except as where otherwise required by mandatory consumer laws.

9. Returns, Refunds & Cancellations

Direct digital purchases

Because digital products can ordinarily be accessed or downloaded immediately, direct sales of successfully delivered digital products are generally final once access or delivery has occurred, except where a refund or remedy is required by applicable law or where the product was not delivered, was materially defective, was materially misdescribed, was purchased through a duplicate charge, or we otherwise approve a refund.

Failed fulfillment or duplicate transactions

If you were charged but did not receive the purchased digital product, or believe you were charged more than once for the same transaction, contact Technical Support. We will review available transaction records and provide an appropriate remedy where warranted.

Entitlement corrections

LWB may add, remove, restore, revoke, or reassign an account entitlement to resolve a refund, chargeback, payment reversal, duplicate grant, administrative error, account merge, fraudulent activity, reconciliation error, support issue, or other record inconsistency. Administrative correction of an entitlement does not erase the underlying transaction history, and LWB may retain appropriate audit records.

Unauthorized transactions

If you believe a transaction was unauthorized, contact us promptly and follow any applicable PayPal, card-issuer, or financial-institution dispute procedures. Nothing in these Terms limits rights provided by law or by your payment provider.

Physical goods, if offered

If LWB later sells physical goods directly, any product-specific return conditions disclosed before purchase will apply in addition to mandatory consumer rights. Third-party marketplace purchases remain governed by the seller or marketplace that fulfilled the transaction.

Consumer cancellation and withdrawal rights applicable in the EU/EEA and United Kingdom are addressed separately below and override this general section where required by law.

10. Third-Party Marketplaces, Retailers & Sellers

The Services may link to products available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Lulu, other booksellers, app stores, payment providers, distributors, or third-party marketplaces. When the third party is the seller of record or processes the transaction under its own checkout:

• the third party’s terms, privacy policy, pricing, return policy, fulfillment rules, delivery terms, and customer-service procedures apply;
• LWB does not control the third party’s inventory, shipping, transaction processing, or account systems; and
• questions about a marketplace order should generally be directed to the marketplace or seller that processed it.

11. Amazon Associates Disclosure

LWB may participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may use qualifying Amazon affiliate links now or in the future.

When an Amazon affiliate relationship is active, LWB may receive a commission when a user follows a properly identified affiliate link and completes a qualifying transaction, at no additional charge from LWB to the user.

Amazon controls Amazon-site pricing, availability, order acceptance, fulfillment, shipping, returns, customer service, and its own terms. Product information appearing on LWB may become outdated; the price, availability, and terms shown by Amazon at the time of purchase control the Amazon transaction.

Where required, affiliate links or promotional placements will include clear and conspicuous disclosures. Amazon and related marks are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

12. Advertising, Google AdSense & Other Advertising Partners

LWB may display third-party advertising or participate in advertising programs, including Google AdSense, now or in the future. Advertising may be enabled, disabled, limited, or changed by page, jurisdiction, translation, licensing condition, or business decision.

If Google AdSense or another advertising service is active, the provider may use cookies, pixels, device identifiers, or similar technologies to deliver, measure, personalize, limit, or secure advertising, subject to applicable consent requirements and our Privacy Policy.

Third-party advertisements are supplied by their respective advertisers or networks. Unless expressly stated, LWB does not endorse an advertiser merely because an advertisement appears on a Service. Your dealings with advertisers are between you and the advertiser.

Where publisher licenses or rights-holder conditions restrict advertising adjacency to Scripture or other licensed material, LWB may disable advertising or apply other restrictions as necessary.

13. Third-Party Services, Links & Embedded Content

The Services may link to or embed content and functionality provided by third parties, including payment processors, booksellers, video platforms, social networks, analytics providers, mapping services, advertising providers, publishers, and external reference sources.

Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for the independent operation, availability, security, accuracy, policies, or conduct of a third-party service. A link or embed does not by itself create an endorsement, partnership, agency, or sponsorship relationship.

14. Donations & Voluntary Support

LWB may accept voluntary financial support through its Donate page or other expressly identified channels. A donation is not a purchase of goods or services unless the transaction is expressly described otherwise.

Qualifying donation(s) & contribution(s) to Living Word Bibles may be tax-deductible. You are responsible for obtaining your own tax advice regarding any contribution.

Donation transactions processed by PayPal are also subject to applicable PayPal terms. If a donation is made in error, contact us promptly and we will review the request consistent with applicable law and payment-provider requirements.

15. Communications, Prayer Requests, Feedback & Submissions

We do not claim ownership of private customer-support messages, account communications, prayer requests, or other private correspondence merely because you send them to us. We will handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If you submit feedback, suggestions, corrections, ideas, or technical recommendations about the Services, you grant LWB a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use that feedback for operating, maintaining, correcting, and improving the Services, without an obligation to compensate you, provided we do not thereby acquire ownership of your underlying personal data or confidential material.

If you intentionally submit content for public posting or publication by LWB, additional publication or contributor terms may apply. Do not submit material you lack the right to provide.

Newsletter subscriptions are optional and may be stopped using the unsubscribe mechanism or Opt-Out page. Opting out of promotional newsletters does not necessarily prevent LWB from sending account-verification, password-reset, security, purchase, reconciliation, legal, order, or support communications that are reasonably necessary to administer a requested service or transaction.

16. Bible Publishers, Rights Holders & Takedown Requests

LWB seeks to respect translation licenses, public-domain status, trademark rights, attribution requirements, territorial restrictions, and publisher permissions. Rights holders and authorized agents may review our Publisher Licensing Notice for current translation status, attribution information, correction procedures, and contact details.

If you believe content is displayed in a manner that infringes or exceeds your rights, please contact us with sufficient information to identify the work, the affected page or file, the basis of your claim, and your authority to act. We may temporarily restrict access while a good-faith rights dispute is investigated.

18. European Union / EEA Consumer Information

If you are a consumer in the European Union or European Economic Area and LWB directs a direct-to-consumer sale to your jurisdiction, mandatory consumer protections applicable to you remain in effect notwithstanding any conflicting provision of these Terms.

Pre-contract information

Before checkout, the applicable product page or checkout should identify the main characteristics, price, payment method, delivery or access method, known compatibility or geographic restrictions, and other information required by applicable law.

14-day withdrawal right

For qualifying distance contracts, consumers generally have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. The method for calculating the period depends on whether the contract concerns goods, services, or digital content.

Digital content

For digital content supplied without a tangible medium, the statutory withdrawal right may be lost once supply begins only where the legal requirements are satisfied, including prior express consent to begin supply during the withdrawal period and acknowledgment that the right of withdrawal will be lost. If those requirements are not satisfied, your statutory rights remain.

Legal guarantee

Mandatory rights concerning faulty, non-conforming, or undelivered goods, digital content, or digital services remain unaffected, including remedies required by applicable national law implementing EU consumer rules.

Third-party purchases

If Amazon or another independent marketplace is the seller or contracting trader, that marketplace’s consumer process and applicable legal obligations govern the transaction.

Governing law

The Indiana governing-law provision below does not deprive an EU/EEA consumer of mandatory protections that apply under the law of the consumer’s habitual residence.

Consumer redress

The former EU Online Dispute Resolution platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025. Consumers may contact LWB directly and may consult the European Commission’s current Consumer Redress resources for information about available national alternative-dispute-resolution bodies.

19. United Kingdom Consumer Information

Mandatory UK consumer rights remain unaffected where they apply to a direct LWB transaction. For qualifying distance contracts, UK law generally provides a 14-day cancellation period, subject to statutory exceptions.

For digital content supplied by download, stream, or similar immediate access, a consumer may lose the statutory cancellation right after supply begins only if the consumer has given the legally required express consent to immediate supply and acknowledged that the cancellation right will be lost. If the required consent and acknowledgment are not obtained, statutory rights remain.

Nothing in these Terms excludes statutory remedies for digital content that is faulty, not as described, or otherwise fails to conform to applicable UK consumer law. The separate territorial restrictions in Section 17 apply to LWB KJV editions.

20. Privacy, Cookies & Data

Our collection and use of personal information are described in the Privacy Policy. Depending on which features are active, the Services may use cookies or similar technologies for essential functionality, account access, analytics, fraud prevention, affiliate attribution, advertising, consent management, or related purposes.

LWB may also maintain technical, security, page-view, click, form-event, download, transaction, entitlement, and administrative audit records for site operation, troubleshooting, fraud prevention, security, compliance, and service improvement as described in the Privacy Policy.

Ordinary site-activity logging is designed not to record typed form-field values, passwords, password-reset or email-verification tokens, or URL query strings as routine click telemetry. Information that you intentionally submit through an account, purchase, reconciliation, contact, newsletter, or support form is processed separately as necessary to perform that function.

Where required by applicable law, non-essential cookies or tracking technologies are subject to consent or other legally required controls. Users may review available choices through our privacy and opt-out resources.

21. Service Availability, Updates & Errors

We may maintain, modify, update, replace, suspend, or discontinue features or content from time to time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to every Service, translation, product, external API, payment provider, or third-party integration.

Temporary outages, maintenance, browser incompatibilities, payment-provider delays, internet-provider failures, publisher changes, third-party API failures, or security incidents may affect availability.

We may correct typographical, formatting, metadata, pricing, navigation, entitlement, account-library, or technical errors when discovered. Material changes to paid products will be handled consistently with applicable consumer law.

22. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” LWB disclaims warranties not expressly provided in writing, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation, except to the extent such warranties cannot be lawfully waived.

LWB provides Scripture, historical material, devotional content, educational material, and related resources for reading, study, worship, research, and general information. Such content is not a substitute for professional legal, financial, medical, mental-health, emergency, or other regulated professional advice.

Historical, theological, bibliographic, or editorial material may reflect interpretation, synthesis, or scholarly disagreement. The presence of a translation, quotation, external link, advertisement, or third-party resource does not necessarily imply denominational endorsement or institutional affiliation.

Nothing in this section limits statutory warranties, guarantees, or remedies that cannot be lawfully waived.

Marketing Terminology & Slogan Disclaimer

Living Word Bibles uses certain slogans and promotional descriptions to identify the history, purpose, and recipients of its custom presentation eBibles. Unless expressly stated otherwise, the word “Official” as used in such marketing language describes Living Word Bibles’ own presentation program and historical relationship with the recipients of its custom editions; it does not, standing alone, represent a governmental designation, procurement, sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, or approval.

“Official eBible of the U.S. President Since 2000.” This slogan means that Living Word Bibles has prepared and sent custom presentation eBibles to Presidents of the United States and has received acknowledgment from the applicable President or the President’s office concerning the presentation, receipt, and, where specifically documented, use of the product. The phrase “Since 2000” refers to the historical period during which Living Word Bibles has conducted such presidential presentations and does not represent that Living Word Bibles has been formally appointed, designated, retained, or endorsed as an official Bible publisher, vendor, or representative of the President, the White House, or the United States Government.

DISCLAIMER: This SHALL NOT be construed as an official endorsement by The White House, any current or former President, or the U.S. Government. Eighty-percent (80%) of all proceeds from the sale of these Presidential Editions is donated to the applicable Presidents' Presidential Library, or a charity of their choosing.

“Official eBible of Heads of State.” This slogan means that Living Word Bibles has personally prepared and sent custom presentation eBibles to heads of state, heads of government, or their respective offices, and has received acknowledgment of the presentation or receipt from the specific recipient or the recipient’s office, or correspondence containing words substantially similar to that effect. The slogan does not represent that Living Word Bibles has been formally appointed, designated, sponsored, endorsed, or approved by any government, sovereign, head of state, head of government, public office, or governmental institution.

An acknowledgment of correspondence, receipt of a presentation eBible, thank-you letter, confirmation from an official office, or similar communication does not necessarily by itself constitute an endorsement, recommendation, sponsorship, commercial approval, or governmental affiliation.

DISCLAIMER: This SHALL NOT be construed as an official endorsement by any specific head of state or government.

23. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LWB, Cook Services Company, LLC, and their respective owners, officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, and agents shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or relating to the Services.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the aggregate liability of LWB and Cook Services Company, LLC for claims arising from a paid product or Service shall not exceed the lesser of (a) the amount you paid directly to LWB for the product or Service giving rise to the claim during the ninety-day (90) period preceding the event giving rise to liability, or (b) twenty United States Dollars ($20 USD), whichever is less.

These limitations apply to liability, except that which cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, in accordance with applicable law.

24. Indemnification

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS LWB, COOK SERVICES COMPANY, LLC, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, AND AGENTS FROM ALL THIRD-PARTY CLAIMS, DAMAGES, LIABILITIES, JUDGMENTS, COSTS, AND REASONABLE LEGAL EXPENSES ARISING FROM YOUR UNLAWFUL USE OF THE SERVICES, YOUR MATERIAL VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS, OR YOUR INFRINGEMENT OF ANOTHER PERSON’S RIGHTS.

The prevailing party shall be entitled to reasonable court costs & attorney's fees arising from any dispute under these Terms or Services.

25. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms and any disputes arising therefrom are governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer law requires otherwise.

Before filing a formal claim or civil complaint, the parties are requried to attempt good-faith informal dispute resolution by sending a written grievance with the requested resolution to the contact information below, and allowing for a reasonable opportunity to respond.

Except where a different forum is required by mandatory consumer law or another non-waiverable rule, any judicial proceeding arising from these Terms or the Services shall be brought in a state or federal court having jurisdiction in and for the City of Indianapolis, County of Marion, State of Indiana, and the parties consent to personal jurisdiction & venue there.

Both parties agree to mandatory arbitration & informal dispute resoultion, except whereas otherwise experessly required by law. Any mediator or arbitrator shall be chsoen at the sole discretion of CSC or LWB, and their decision shall be legally binding.

26. General Terms

Severability

If any portion or provision of these Terms is deemed unlawful, invalid, or otherwise unenforceable, such portion or provision shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force & effect.

No waiver

Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision or any other provision or right.

Assignment

You may not assign your contractual rights under these Terms in a manner that would materially increase our obligations without our consent, except where applicable law provides otherwise. We may assign or transfer these Terms in connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, sale of assets, change of control, or transfer of the LWB business, subject to applicable law.

Entire agreement
